Route 22 lane closures in both directions continue
for emergency bridge repairs in Newark
One lane in each direction will be maintained during construction
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced one lane in each direction on Route 22 in Newark will remain closed until further notice for emergency bridge repairs in Newark.
The left lane in each direction of Route 22 just west of Mile Post 58.5 was closed at approximately 11 p.m. Tuesday, March 19 because of loose concrete from a railroad overpass. NJDOT’s contractor, IEW Corp., began repairs last night and is continuing to remove loose concrete and repair the overpass. One lane in each direction will be closed until further notice. At least one lane of Route 22 in each direction will be maintained while the emergency work is taking place.
Motorists should expect congestion and delays, and are encouraged to consider alternate routes.
Variable Message Signs will provide advance notification to motorists of the traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info and on the NJDOT Facebook page.
