I-295 northbound Exit 2A and Hook Road ramp
to reopen this weekend
Project completed on time and on budget
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the completion of the I-295 northbound Bridge over the NJ Turnpike, Route 40 and Salem Canal in Carney’s Point, Salem County, on time and on budget.
Beginning at 8 a.m., Saturday, June 8, NJDOT’s contractor, South State, Inc., will reopen the Hook Road ramp leading to I-295 northbound, the right lane on the bridge, and I-295 northbound Exit 2A leading to Route 40 westbound/I-295 southbound towards the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Traffic will be returned to the original three-lane configuration by 12 noon that day, and the signed detour will be removed.
The $4.67 million federally-funded I-295 northbound bridge over New Jersey Turnpike, Route 40 and Salem Canal replacement project, which began in August 2018, involved the replacement of the concrete bridge deck and additional structural repairs to the rocker bearings and substructure spall. Replacement of the bridge deck was designed in stages in order to minimize the effect on motorists. While major construction on the bridge is now complete, minor landscaping will be completed in the coming weeks.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info or on the NJDOT Facebook page.
