Route 1&9/Tonnele Avenue southbound closed and detoured for
emergency water main repair in Jersey City
Repairs expected to be completed by Wednesday morning commute
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced Route 1&9/Tonnele Avenue southbound is closed and detoured for emergency water main repairs in Jersey City.
The water main break is on Route 1&9/Tonnele Avenue south of Carlton Avenue. SUEZ North America crews are on scene making repairs. The emergency repairs, which began this morning following the water main break, are expected to be completed early Wednesday morning with the southbound lanes reopened before the morning commute. Route 1&9/Tonnele Avenue northbound remains open at this time. The following detour is in place:
Route 1&9/Tonnele southbound detour
- Traffic on Route 1&9/Tonnele Avenue southbound is being directed to turn left onto Manhattan Avenue
- Turn right onto John F. Kennedy Boulevard
- Turn right and take the ramp down to Tonnele Circle to Route 1&9/Pulaski Skyway southbound or Route 1&9 Truck/Tonnele Avenue southbound
If work is completed early, the road will reopen sooner. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
