NJDOT congratulates TMAs
for award winning poster series

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) recently recognized the nine Transportation Management Associations (TMA) throughout the state for their collective first place finish in the American Public Transit Association’s (APTA) 1996 AdWheel Awards. The first place prize was awarded for a series of posters with the theme "A Smarter Way to Work," which NJDOT and the TMA’s developed to promote alternatives to solo commuting.

"The more choice that commuters have at their disposal, the better their ability to plan their commutes. The efforts by the TMA’s to promote alternative commuting choices dovetails into the NJDOT’s efforts to promote ridesharing and mass transit," said Acting Transportation Commissioner John J. Haley, Jr. "I congratulate the TMAs for their support and look forward to working with them in the future."

The department handed out certificates of appreciation to representatives of the TMA’s at a meeting of the Transportation Management Association Council earlier this month.

"The purpose of the poster series was to show commuters that driving alone is not the only way to get to work. The posters used bright colors and catchy slogans to encourage people to choose other commuting options like transit, walking, biking, or ridesharing in a carpool or vanpool," said Roberta Karpinecz, program manager for Keep Middlesex Moving TMA.

Keep Middlesex Moving, Inc., Middlesex County’s TMA, led a project team that developed the poster concepts with representatives from Cross County Connection, Greater Mercer TMA, Hudson TMA, Hunterdon Area Rural Transit, Meadowlink Ridesharing, Morris County Rides, Ridewise of Raritan Valley, Transit Plus and NJDOT.

Reichman Frankle, Inc. of Englewood Cliffs and Design Source East of Hackensack designed the posters. Funding was provided by the NJDOT.
