NJDOT awards $1.6 million in
FY97 municipal aid to Sussex County municipalities
Governor Christine Whitman and Acting Transportation Commissioner John J. Haley, Jr. today announced more than $1.6 million in municipal aid to 11 Sussex County municipalities for local street repair and resurfacing projects.
"In my State-of-the-State address, I made mention of a road to a brighter future. The NJDOT’s Local Aid program helps provide those brighter futures as a major funding source for hundreds of municipal road projects each year," Whitman said.
"This program is the perfect example of the Governor’s commitment to providing property tax relief to the municipalities and of the NJDOT’s commitment to rebuild our roads at all levels," said Haley.
A list of the Sussex County municipalities receiving FY97 Local Aid grants is attached.
The Local Aid Program is supported by the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund. Under legislation signed by Governor Whitman in 1995, the Transportation Trust Fund was renewed and local aid funding was increased from $100 million to $130 million per year.
