New traffic configuration for
Capital Complex
set to open on December 12
Transportation Commissioner John J. Haley, Jr. today announced that a new traffic pattern will be instituted for the capital complex on December 12, 1997.
"The changes we have made will not only make it easier to get in and out of the capital complex," the Commissioner said, "but will provide new pedestrian access to the War Memorial."
The following are the changes to be implemented on December 12 in the afternoon: one way counter-clockwise traffic flow around the War Memorial will be eliminated; Barrack Street between Lafayette and Memorial Drive will be eliminated; two way traffic flow will be introduced on Lafayette, Peace, and Memorial; a circular roadway and garage access road will provide access to the Capital Complex Parking Garage.
Additionally, new traffic signals will be in place at:
-- Memorial and Garage Access Road.
-- Memorial and Peace.
-- Peace and Lafayette.
-- Barrack and Lafayette.
Extensive signing has also been installed to assist motorists.
The $1.2 million project began in September of this year and is funded by the state Transportation Trust Fund. The attached diagram denotes the new traffic patterns.
