Statement by Transportation Commissioner John J. Haley Jr. on House Approval of ‘BESTEA’ (H.R. 2400)
"The House’s swift action on ‘BESTEA’ was critical, considering the May 1 expiration of the program, but the biggest challenge is ahead of us. The House and Senate conference session can make or break this program for New Jersey.
At this point, New Jersey’s challenge is to protect key elements of a very good House bill, particularly our fair share of overall funding, a formula for bridges that recognizes regional cost differences, and additional funding for the Urban Core.
The more intact the House bill emerges from conference, the more intact our transportation system is going to be for the next decade.
We’ll continue to work closely with our delegation to protect New Jersey’s interests during this crucial stage."
