Haley Dedicates SNJLRTS
Community Information Office
With the cut of a ceremonial ribbon, Transportation Commissioner and NJ Transit Board Chairman John J. Haley, Jr. today formally dedicated the Community Information Office. Located in Riverside (Burlington County), the office serves as a clearinghouse of information for the Southern New Jersey Light Rail Transit System (SNJLRTS) project.
"This office is part of an ongoing effort to have accurate and unemotional information about this project readily available and accessible to the residents of the region. I believe that by establishing a presence in the community we afford ourselves the opportunity to best explain the many benefits of the light rail line," Haley said.
The choice of using the old Zurbrugg Hospital as a location for the office was made because it provides a central location along the proposed rail line, but also illustrates how the project encourages the re-use of an existing facility.
"The establishment of this office also represents NJ Transit’s commitment to work with the communities along the route to make the rail line the best it can possibly be. I sincerely believe the more people learn, the more likely they will be to share our enthusiasm for the project and the positive impact it will have on the future of the region," Haley continued.
"Ultimately, the light rail system will create a corridor of invigorated economic development for the region while allowing residents in the riverfront communities easier access to neighboring towns and from Trenton to Camden. The system will also make getting around the region much easier through its connections to the Northeast Corridor in Trenton and Philadelphia via the PATCO line," said NJ Transit Executive Director Shirley DeLibero.
Haley said the office will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The office will be open from noon until 8 p.m. Wednesdays and from 9 a.m. until noon on the first Saturday of each month. The center’s toll-free telephone number is 1(888) 313-6989.
