NJDOT suspends
construction for July 4th Holiday Weekend
Transportation Commissioner John J. Haley, Jr. today announced that NJDOT will suspend construction activities that impact traffic for the Holiday weekend.
"We will do our part by ensuring motorists can get to their destinations safely and with minimal disruption," the Commissioner said. "Beginning at noon this Thursday, July 2, 1998, all construction work that impact lanes will be suspended through the morning rush hour on Monday, July 6. We will only allow lane closures for emergency work."
The DOT will also be extending the hours of operation for our Emergency Service Patrols (ESP) on Thursday, Friday and Sunday. On Routes 80, 280 and 287, ESP will operate from 4:00 AM to 10:30 PM on Thursday, and Friday from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM. On Sunday, ESP will patrol routes 78 and 80 from 2:30 PM to 8:30 PM. On Routes 295, 55, 42, and 76/676, the hours will be 4:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Thursday, and 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM on Sunday.
"We strongly encourage motorists with disabled vehicles to pull completely off the roadway and stay with their vehicle until police or ESP personnel arrive," Commissioner Haley said. "Before leaving home, drivers should inspect their vehicle for basic items like gas, water and oil, and also ensure that the spare tire is properly inflated."
