Route 518 truck dedesignation
amendment to be published on May 17, 1999
The New Jersey Department of Transportation is proposing an amendment to remove County Route 518 from the federal Large Truck Network. The amendment will be published on May 17, 1999, in the N.J. Register, to be followed by a 30 day comment period. Once comments are received and reviewed, the amendment is scheduled for adoption on August 16, 1999.
New Jersey Administrative Code 16:32 outlines procedures applicable to the operation of trucks with widths in excess of 96 inches, but not more than 102 inches, and double trailer truck operations with the state. The Department proposes to amend this to de-designate Route 518 as a through route for wide trucks.
The amendment was developed after receiving supporting resolutions in February from Mercer, Somerset and Hunterdon counties, as well as municipalities traversed by Route 518. It will prohibit trucks that exceed 96 inches in width, and trucks with 53-foot long trailers, from using Route 518 unless they are making a pick-up, delivery, or accessing facilities providing food, fuel, repairs, or rest within two miles of a route that is on the 102 inch truck network.
