NJDOT to Readopt Federal Rules
on Hazardous Materials Transportation
The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is proposing to readopt, with minor amendments, rules establishing the regulation of shipping, packaging, marking, labeling, handling and transportation of hazardous materials in the state. The proposed regulation is consistent with federal regulations for hazardous materials transportation promulgated by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
By its proposal to readopt the federal rules, the NJDOT is continuing its policy of adopting and incorporating the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and the Federal Hazardous Materials Regulations so that the regulated industry and law enforcement community has to follow only one set of rules.
The proposed regulation was published in the New Jersey Register on September 20, 1999. The public has until October 20, 1999 to comment on the proposed regulation.
Comments should be directed in writing to Thomas P. Thatcher, Administrative Practice Officer, NJDOT, 1035 Parkway Avenue, P.O. Box 600, Trenton, New Jersey, 08625; Fax (609) 530-3841.
