Governor Christie Whitman and Transportation Commissioner James Weinstein today announced that the Route 46 bridge over Peckman's Brook in Little Falls will re-open to eastbound traffic at 1:00 PM Friday, September 24, 1999. The bridge was closed to eastbound traffic on Friday, September 17, 1999 due to structural damage caused by Tropical Storm Floyd.
"There are always some brights spots when you have to respond to a devastating natural disaster, and the NJDOT=s tireless efforts to the get the Route 46 bridge repaired is one example of that," the Governor said. "On behalf of the State of New Jersey, and all motorists who use the road, I would like to thank the employees of NJDOT for their hard work, dedication and commitment to getting this job done."
"There are so many people who played key roles in seeing that these emergency repairs were accomplished in record time," Commissioner Weinstein said. "First and foremost, Rod Roberson, our Assistant Commissioner of Operations, worked tirelessly throughout last weekend and into the week to ensure the job got done. My job as Commissioner is made easier by the selfless actions of employees like Rod."
The Route 46 bridge repairs were made possible through the efforts of NJDOT Division of Operations and Division of Capital Program Management.
