Inspection Stattion to Close December 11
C. Richard Kamin, Director of the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles, is reminding automobile and light truck owners in the Somerset County area that the Somerville inspection station will close permanently at the end of business Saturday, December 11.
The state’s new enhanced inspection program will begin Monday, December 13. Motorists in the Somerville area are being asked to take their cars to other facilities, such as Washington, Flemington, Randolph, Westfield, South Brunswick and Edison.

"While the planned closing has been public information for some time now, we wanted to remind motorists who have traditionally used the Somerville station that they should make alternative plans for getting their cars inspected," Kamin said.
Kamin explained that Somerville facility is located in a residential area and, as such, was not a viable site for expansion or retrofit to accommodate the new enhanced inspection equipment. State officials were unsuccessful in attempts to find nearby replacement sites in Hillsborough and Clinton.
To make up the four lanes originally planned for the Somerville replacement station, an additional lane will be constructed at existing sites in Flemington, Plainfield, Edison and Manahawkin.
