Governor Joins State Police
and DOT in Urging Residents to Take
Precautions Says State is Ready for Any Snowstorm
Governor Christie Whitman today issued the following statement regarding the potential approaching snowstorm.
"With 150,000 tons of rock salt stockpiled, 1,800 snow plows ready and the mobilization of the State Police Office of Emergency Management, New Jersey is well-equipped to deal with any amount of snowfall that is potentially headed our way this weekend," said Gov. Whitman.
"I would still ask residents to use common sense this weekend when it comes to driving because the most important thing for everyone is safety. Stay off the roads if you don't have to drive - and to use caution and good judgement if you do have to go out.
"For a compact state, New Jersey can experience many different weather conditions. But whatever the situation calls for - whether we're talking about the situation in Cape May or High Point - the State is prepared like we are every winter season. Of course, it just so happens that that the last three winters have been relatively tame.
"The bottom line is that residents need to rest assured that our State Police emergency management system is ready to help them deal with any weather-related threat while the New Jersey Department of Transportation stands mobilized to coordinate snow removal activities. It's now in the hands of 'Mother Nature.'" said Gov. Whitman.
