NJDOT Proposes to
Readopt Rules on Disadvantaged
Business and Woman-Owned Business Contracting
The New Jersey Department of Transportation has proposed to readopt and amend its rules governing disadvantaged business and woman-owned business participation in the Department's contracting activities that are 100 percent state funded.
Business owners not falling within traditional definitions of disadvantaged and woman-owned businesses would be eligible to apply for certification to compete for NJDOT construction and professional service contracts provided the Department finds them to be socially and economically disadvantaged.
To participate in the program, applicants' net worth can not exceed $750,000. Proposed amendments to the chapter would revise the program's eligibility criteria to comport with the February 1993 Final Report of the Governor's Study Commission on Discrimination in Public Works Procurement and Construction Contracts.
The rules proposed for readoption and the proposed amendments were published Monday, April 16, in the New Jersey Register. The public has until May 16 to comment on the proposal.
Comments on the proposal should be directed in writing to Thomas P. Thatcher, Administrative Practice Officer, Bureau of Administrative Practice and Public Law Implementation, Division of Policy, Legislation, and Regulatory Actions, NJ Department of Transportation, 1035 Parkway Avenue, P.O. Box 600, Trenton, NJ 08625-0600, Fax: (609) 530-3841.
