NJDOT to discuss Route 3 Bridge over the Passaic River
The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will host a public information center for the Route 3 Bridge over the Passaic River on Wednesday, September 19, 2001, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Council Meeting Room on the 2nd floor of the Rutherford Borough Hall, 176 Park Avenue, Rutherford, NJ.
The public information center will provide information on a set of recommendations NJDOT has developed for improving safety and relieving congestion along Route 3 between Main Avenue in Clifton and the Route 17 Interchange in Rutherford and Lyndhurst. Featured among the proposed improvements are the replacement of the Route 3 bridge over the Passaic River, the replacement of overpasses crossing Route 3, and a series of access improvements that include the addition of new shoulders, re-designed on-ramps, and acceleration/deceleration lanes.
The project is currently in the preliminary engineering phase, which is anticipated to take about two years and precedes the final design stage. Construction of the Route 3 Bridge is expected to begin in the spring of 2006, with an estimated project cost of $150 million.
The public information center will provide an opportunity for community members to view displays showing the proposed improvements, offer comments and suggestions, and discuss concerns. Representatives of the project team will be on hand to present a project overview and answer questions.
