NJDOT Activates Special Carpool Match Hotline
The New Jersey Department of Transportation has activated a special hotline (1-888-648-6007) to assist commuters in arranging carpools in response to new single occupancy vehicles (SOV) restrictions at the Lincoln Tunnel.
NJDOT transportation coordinators are staffing the hotline from 6 am to midnight on weekdays, and from 8 am to 5 pm this weekend. Coordinators will ask commuters where they live and their destination and use that information to match them with rideshare partners.
Commuters interested in ridesharing can also visit njcommuter.com and
e-mail their carpool application to NJDOT. SOV drivers can also go to park/ride facilities off the Garden State Parkway in Ridgewood, the PNC Arts Center in Holmdel or the Meadowlands Sport Complex and arrange their own carpools.
Transportation Commissioner James Weinstein said: “We are carefully monitoring the situation regarding traffic into New York City and are in touch with city officials to lend whatever support we can. I urge New Jersey commuters to explore carpool options and bear with us as we work daily to improve travel conditions.”
Businesses that are interested in information on how to institute flex time work hours and telecommuting should contact NJDOT’s Smart Moves For Business Office (609-530-5947) or go to www.njcommuter.com and click on Smart Moves For Business.
