NJDOT To Cut Ribbon On New
Route 9 Span Over The Raritan River

Six months ahead of schedule, Transportation Commissioner James Weinstein will join with local officials to formally cut the ribbon on the new $60 million Route 9 bridge over the Raritan River in Middlesex County.

The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m., Friday, December 14, at the new bridge. To get to the site:

  • Take the New Jersey Turnpike to Exit 10. Follow signs for Rt. 440 East Perth Amboy.
  • Merge on to Rt. 440. Stay in right lane. Take first exit, “Industrial Ave. Smith Street.”
  • Stay to left on ramp. Ramp turns into Smith Street.
  • Stay to left on Smith Street and make second left turn. This is a U-turn on Smith Street.
  • After U-turn, get in right lane for Route 9 southbound ramp.
  • Stay to the right. At the top of the ramp, enter construction area through orange traffic barrels.
Southbound Route 9 traffic will be officially shifted over to the new span around 1 a.m. Monday, December 17.
The new Route 9 span complements the existing Edison Bridge, which is scheduled to undergo rehabilitation next year. When completed, the Edison Bridge will carry northbound Route 9 traffic and the new span will carry southbound Route 9 traffic
