NJDOT Awards $12 Million For Local
Pedestrian Safety And Bicycle Projects
Transportation Commissioner James Weinstein today announced the award of $12 million in grants for 87 local bicycle and pedestrian safety projects throughout the state. The funding is made available through the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund’s Local Aid Program.
“Alternative means of transportation, like walking and bicycling, are integral to our quality of life,” Commissioner Weinstein said. “These projects that are receiving awards are developed by local governments to meet their particular needs. Taken with our traditional bridge and highway projects, bicycle and pedestrian safety projects diversify our transportation system and, ultimately, make our state and communities better places to live.”
The NJDOT’s Local Aid Program is supported by the New Jersey Transportation Trust Fund. In Fiscal Year 2002, a total of $171 million is being made available for municipal and county transportation projects.
