New Agreement to Provide
Needed Parking for Commuters
(Trenton) - An agreement to provide an alternate parking location for Willowbrook Mall park and ride users was announced today by Governor James E. McGreevey.
"The agreement will ensure that commuters can continue to park in the Wayne area in order to take public transit service into New York," McGreevey said.
Commuters had been faced with the prospect of losing a large number of parking spaces at Willowbrook Mall due to the expiration of a previous parking agreement.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation will lease the new parking location and provide parking for up to 800 commuters at the site of the former the Mother's nightclub and the adjoining Frassetto property on Route 23 in Wayne.
Approximately 400 spots will become available to commuters at the Mother's location on April 1. Bus service will be provided to the site. By May 6, the DOT expects to have the adjoining property ready for another 400 commuters. Commuters will continue to be able to use 802 parking spots at the Willowbrook Mall.
"Commuters can be assured that my administration will continue to work as expeditiously as we have at Willowbrook to provide adequate parking and access to transit," the Governor said. "We commend Commissioner Fox, Willowbrook Mall and Wayne Mayor Scott Rumana for taking the lead in our efforts to accommodate commuters."
McGreevey also commended the owners of the property for their assistance in resolving the problem.
"Safe and secure parking, as well as easy access to public transit, are absolute necessities for commuters," Commissioner Fox said. "These agreements allow the Department and New Jersey Transit to meet commuters' needs."
