Creek Road Bridge over 295
damaged in afternoon accident

(Bellmawr) – Transportation Commissioner Jamie Fox today urged motorists to avoid the scene of an afternoon accident that has damaged the Creek Road bridge over 295 in Bellmawr.

From preliminary reports, it appears a truck carrying a large piece of equipment hit the bridge while traveling underneath the structure on 295. Creek Road and Route 295 Southbound are currently closed.

“Senior NJDOT officials are on the scene right now, including emergency personnel and structural engineers who are working to determine the extent of the structural damage and the impact on rush hour traffic,” said Fox.

NJDOT is working in cooperation with local and county officials, and detours already have been set up. The Department also has mobilized emergency contractors to evaluate whether temporary repairs can be made.

“We know thousands of commuters rely on these roads to get home from work, but if at all possible, Route 295 and Creek Road should absolutely be avoided,” said Fox. “Heavy delays are expected.”

“NJDOT will get traffic moving as fast as we can, and we are already looking into what company is responsible for damaging the bridge,” said Fox.
