Fox to announce start of
major I-295 reconstruction project
Transportation Commissioner Jamie Fox will announce tomorrow the start of a major $65 million I-295 reconstruction project in Burlington and Camden counties.
The announcement will be made at the NJDOT Regional Operations Headquarters in Cherry Hill, NJ at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 19. Joining Commissioner Fox for the announcement will be state and local officials, including legislators from the 6th Legislative District.
Interstate 295 in Burlington and Camden counties was constructed 40 years ago, and the project represents the first significant reconstruction of this major interstate highway. The NJDOT will be replacing deteriorated pavement and bridges, and installing Intelligent Transportation Systems technologies to alert motorists to road construction and congestion. Design work is under way, and construction work will begin later this year. Approximately 90,000 motorists a day use I-295.
The NJDOT Operations Center in Cherry Hill is a state-of-the-art facility that utilizes computerized traffic signal systems and video monitoring of traffic conditions, and controls electronic message signs and highway advisory radios throughout South Jersey. In addition, all coordination and oversight of maintenance work, emergency operations, incident management, and winter storm efforts are done in this facility.
Attached are directions to the Operations Headquarters in Cherry Hill.
