$200,000 Local Aid award to Little Ferry
Transportation Commissioner Jack Lettiere and State Senator Joseph Coniglio today presented a $200,000 local aid check to Little Ferry Mayor Tom Quirico for the borough’s Main Street revitalization project.
“The Main Street project is a perfect demonstration of Governor McGreevey’s Smart Growth policy to redevelop the state’s older, established communities,” said Lettiere. “Because of the Transportation Trust Fund, the state can help Little Ferry move forward with this important work.”
“I applaud Little Ferry for taking the initiative to apply for this grant and utilizing it to revitalize their Main Street,” said Coniglio. “This project will help in revitalizing the borough and spur economic development.”
The state funding will enable Little Ferry to move forward with the first phase of the work to revitalize Main Street between Liberty Street and Grand Street. The work will include new sidewalks and curbs, a decorative paver block curbside, handicap ramps, and textured “street print” crosswalks. The project also will include tree plantings, decorative lighting, benches and trash receptacles.
The borough has plans to extend the project to Werneking Place should funds become available. The total project cost is $740,806.
