Blue Ribbon Transportation
Commission convenes for first meeting
A Blue Ribbon Transportation Commission created by Gov. James E. McGreevey held its first meeting today to chart a long range transportation policy and recommend funding alternatives for renewing the Transportation Trust Fund.
“New Jersey will be well served by these distinguished panel members as they map a transportation strategy to guide us over the next decade,” said McGreevey. “The vitality of our communities, our economy, our working families and our quality of life depend in large measure on a strong transportation system.”
The commission, chaired by Transportation Commissioner Jack Lettiere, was created by the Governor at his January transportation summit. The members include:
Louis J. Gambaccini – Distinguished Transportation Fellow, Rutgers National Transit Institute and former DOT Commissioner.
John P. Sheridan, Jr. - Partner & Co-Chairman of Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland & Perretti and former DOT Commissioner.
Ray Pocino - Vice President - Laborers International Union of North America.
Al Koeppe - President & Chief Operating Officer - PSE&G.
Harry Larrison, Jr. - Freeholder - Monmouth County.
Robert A. Altenkirch - President of New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Barbara Lawrence - Executive Director, NJ Future.
Lettiere said the commission’s work was a critical first step in establishing the state’s transportation priorities and to begin the process of renewing the Transportation Trust Fund, which expires next year. The commission is to submit its final report and recommendations within a year. The meeting today was organizational in nature and to set its agenda.
