NJDOT streamlines aeronautics program
(Trenton) - In an effort to streamline and improve NJDOT's Airport Safety Aid Program State Transportation Commissioner Jack Lettiere today announced measures designed to increase efficiency, provide better customer service, enhance New Jersey's partnership with federal and local entities and accelerate projects.
"In carrying out Governor McGreevey's vision of a more customer-oriented department, I have directed all managers to find ways to improve efficiency and accelerate delivery of our transportation projects," said Lettiere. "Theses changes will allow the Aeronautics Division to focus on State initiatives for the preservation of key airports and the rehabilitation of deteriorating airport infrastructure.
The NJDOT's Division of Aeronautics will streamline the Safety Aid Program through a comprehensive reorganization and make more funds available to local governments to help them meet match requirements for Federal Aviation Administration grants. The changes will also allow airports to coordinate directly with Federal authorities on Federal aid issues, reorganize division staff to provide better direct customer service and accelerate the delivery of approved projects.
In addition, the department will phase-out of a 10-year-old block grant arrangement where in State personnel were responsible for various Federal functions. This improvement will consolidate Federal responsibilities with the FAA and State responsibilities with the NJDOT.
