NJDOT upgrades web site, offers
commuter real-time traffic updates, traffic cameras
(Trenton) – The New Jersey Department of Transportation has expanded web-based commuter services by adding real-time traffic reports and traffic camera images on the department’s web site. Commuters can now access a statewide map that features traffic delays, congestion and construction areas to better plan their daily trips to and from work.
“Our job at NJDOT is to help, not hinder motorists as they travel New Jersey’s roadways,” said Commissioner Jack Lettiere. “By using state-of-the-art technology we are taking another important step in reducing congestion and providing better customer service for millions of drivers. Over the next year and one-half, we’ll be adding 24 traffic cameras so drivers can check on road conditions, avoid traffic jams and plan alternate routes to and from work.”
On the website, commuters can now view 71 live traffic camera shots covering routes 1, 4, 18, 29, 42, 46, 73, I-76, I-80, I-95, I-287. Statewide NJDOT operates 139 cameras.
Other website features for motorists include a link NJCommuter.com an NJDOT-sponsored web site that features park & ride locators, bus and train schedules, ridesharing information, EZ-Pass registration, maps, weather reports and valuable traffic information.
In addition, the NJDOT site includes a link to “Report a Pothole” where motorists can notify DOT staff about potholes that need repairs on state roadways. Potholes can also be reported by calling 1-800-POTHOLE.
