NJDOT Awards $800,000 Local Aid Grant to City of Bordentown

(Ewing) New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner Jack Lettiere announced that the City of Bordentown has received a Local Aid grant for $800,000 for the repair and rehabilitation of a retaining wall adjacent to Conrail tracks and the municipal parking lot.  The retaining wall is close to collapsing on Conrail's tracks, and immediate repairs are required.

“I am pleased that these funds will be used to make important infrastructure repairs in Bordentown,” said Commissioner Lettiere.  “Our Local Aid program is designed for precisely this purpose, to make necessary investments in our communities that rehabilitate infrastructure, improve safety, provide local property tax relief, and enhance the quality of life for residents.”

The $800,000 Local Aid grant will cover 100 percent of the cost of repairing and rebuilding the wall, which also provides structural support to the Bordentown's municipal parking lot. The repairs funded through this Local Aid grant serve a multi-modal need; repairs to the retaining wall will protect rail tracks and also preserve valuable parking facilities in Bordentown.  The City of Bordentown will undertake the repair work.

Assemblyman Joseph R. Malone III originally brought the need for these repairs to the attention of NJDOT last year.

“The cooperation of the NJDOT in this critical matter has been outstanding.   The quality of leadership under Commissioner Lettiere to resolve an extremely dangerous condition should serve as a clear reminder that the Department of Transportation is thorough, effective, and responsive to the needs of NJ residents,” stated Assemblyman Malone.

The Transportation Trust Fund (TTF) funds NJDOT's Local Aid program.   The TTF provides counties and municipalities with more than $260 million each year for local infrastructure and safety improvements through the Local Aid program.   The NJDOT makes direct investments in communities for transportation improvements in municipalities through the Local Aid program.  This valuable assistance takes on added importance in a rebounding economy by providing property tax relief to municipalities.
