NJDOT plans
for Holiday Weekend
(Trenton) - NJDOT Transportation Commissioner Jack Lettiere today announced
that NJDOT will continue its "Reach the Beach" program that keeps
all state roadways open through the Holiday weekend.
"We are committed
to doing everything we can to help motorists get to their destinations
safely and with minimal disruption," Commissioner Lettiere said.
"Beginning at 6 am, Friday, May 28, all construction work
that affects travel lanes on our highways will be suspended through
Noon, Tuesday, June 1st. Lane closures will be permitted
for emergency reasons only."
NJDOT will
also be operating expanded Emergency Service Patrols (ESP) throughout
New Jersey to assist motorists with disabled vehicles.
In North Jersey,
on all or portions of I-287, I-80, I-78, Route 440 and I-280 ESP
will operate Friday evening May, 28 until 10:30 p.m., Sunday,
May 30, from 11:00 am to 8:30 pm. and Monday May 31, from Noon
to 8:30 p.m.
In Central
and South Jersey, on all or portions of I-95, I-195, I-295, I-76/676,
Route 29 Tunnel, Route 42 and Route 55, ESP will operate Friday
evening, May 28 until 10:30 p.m., Saturday, May 29, from 7:00
am to 10:30 pm, Sunday, May 30 from 7:00 am to 10:30 pm, and Monday,
May 31, from noon to 8:30 10:30 pm.
In addition,
NJDOT's Traffic Operations Centers will be staffed over the Holiday
weekend.
The NJDOT's
"Reach the Beach" effort will improve traffic flow and safety
on highways during the summer months. The project
utilizes smart highway technology to monitor traffic conditions
and inform motorists of delays and other routes to travel.
"On weekends
throughout the spring and summer, traffic is congested on the
shore traffic corridors," Commissioner Lettiere said. "Our
Reach the Beach effort will again be able to assist motorists
by informing them of delays and advising them of other routes
to take."
"It is critical
that we continue to make use of technology to help with our congestion
problems," the Commissioner said. "Our Reach the Beach
effort provides motorists with traffic information and helps to
reduce delays and congestion. Our goal is to give motorists
the smoothest trip possible to their shore destinations."
