NJDOT proposing to
readopt rules on transportation of hazardous materials
(Trenton) The New Jersey
Department of Transportation is proposing to readopt with amendments
N.J.A.C. 16:49, the rules governing the Department’s regulations
on the Transportation of Hazardous Materials.
These rules establish the regulation of the shipping, packaging,
marking, labeling, placarding, handling, and transportation of
hazardous materials. They are consistent with Federal regulations.
The amendments are proposed to clarify and streamline language,
and to update contact information. The “Appendix”
has been deleted because the information is available in the Code
of Federal Regulations and is, therefore, duplicative.
The proposed rule appears in the January 3, 2005 issue of the
New Jersey Register. The public has until March 4, 2005 to comment
on the proposal. Persons wishing to comment on the proposal must
provide their comments in writing to Miriam Crum, Administrative
Practice Officer, NJ Department of Transportation, 1035 Parkway
Avenue, PO Box 600, Trenton, NJ 08625-0600. Fax: (609) 530-3841.
Comments must be postmarked or sent by telefacsimile on or before
March 4, 2005 which is the close of the 60-day public comment
period.
Comments submitted to the Department on the proposed rulemaking
are public records and are available for public inspection by
prior appointment during normal Department business hours.
