NJDOT advances $70 million safety
initiative
on Routes 23, 46 and I-80
NJDOT announces
upcoming lane closures
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT)
today announced upcoming lane closures to widen and rebuild ramps
and replace bridge decks on Routes 23, 46 and I-80 in Wayne, Passaic
County.
The $70 million Route 46/23/80 project addresses Route 46 from
the Passaic River to Galesi Drive in Wayne. The project includes
bridge deck replacement, realignment and resurfacing, ramp modification
and the addition of signs, lighting, guide rails and acceleration
and deceleration lanes.

Starting on February 6 the right lane of traffic on Route
46 eastbound will be closed between the NJ TRANSIT overpass and
the Service Road East merge, located near Wayne Ford. The lane
closure will remain in place until November 2008.

The left and right lanes of Route 46 westbound will be
partially closed between Galesi Drive and the NJ TRANSIT overpass
from February 7 through December 2006. One lane of traffic will
remain open at all times. Open portions of the lanes will be shifted
to accommodate the lane closure.

The right lane of Route 23 northbound over I-80 will be
closed from February 9, 2006 through September 2008.

NJDOT will close the Route I-80 westbound ramp to Route
23 southbound from April 2006 through January 2007. Motorists
will be instructed to follow a 1.2-mile detour from the Route
I 80 westbound ramp onto the northbound service road, to the West
Belt Interchange and back onto Route 23 southbound.

The Route 46/23/80 project is part of NJDOT’s $195.4 million
initiative to improve safety on Route 46 from Clifton to Fairfield
in Essex County.
