NJDOT announces upcoming detour at
Route 202 intersection with Case Boulevard in Raritan
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that beginning Friday, October 20, Case Boulevard east of Route 202 in Raritan Township will be closed to accommodate a traffic safety improvement project at the intersection of Route 202 and Case Boulevard.
“NJDOT’s improvements to Route 202 at Case Boulevard will significantly improve safety for motorists in Raritan Township,” said NJDOT Commissioner Kris Kolluri.
NJDOT began the $7.5 million project on Friday, September 15. The project includes the realignment of Route 202 and Case Boulevard as a signalized four-way intersection. A new traffic signal, striping, signage, and drainage improvements will be installed to increase safety at the new intersection. The project will facilitate safer and more efficient access to the newly constructed J.P. Case Middle School, which is located east of the project along Case Boulevard.
NJDOT is implementing two minor detours which will affect Case Boulevard motorists. The detours are as follows:
• Case Boulevard east of Route 202 will be closed beginning Friday night, October 20, 2006. Traffic will be detoured down Voorhees Corner Road to the intersection of Route 202. This detour will be in place approximately two months.
• Case Boulevard west of Route 202 will be closed in January. Traffic will be detoured down River Road to the intersection of Route 202. This detour is scheduled to be in place approximately 2 months.
NJDOT will construct new jug-handles from Route 202 in each direction onto Case Boulevard. These new jug-handles will facilitate left turns and U-turns through the intersection, thereby improving traffic operations at this location. The existing entrance from Ridge Road onto Route 202 will be eliminated and Ridge Road will be extended to Case Boulevard. The project will be constructed in phases to minimize impacts to adjacent businesses and the public.
NJDOT is scheduled to complete the intersection improvements in fall of 2007.
NJDOT placed two variable messaging signs on Route 202 to inform motorists of the construction and detours. Real time travel and construction information is available online at www.njcommuter.com. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully to protect themselves and workers in the construction zone.
