NJDOT to replace the Route 57 bridge
over Merrill Creek in Greenwich Township
(Trenton) - Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) on Monday, April 23, 2007 will begin the replacement of the Route 57 Bridge over Merrill Creek in Greenwich Township, Warren County.
The $3 million project will replace the existing, deteriorated structure with a new, single-span pre-cast concrete bridge carrying Route 57 traffic over Merrill Creek. The new structure will incorporate aesthetic treatments consistent with the scenic and historic Route 57 corridor.
Route 57 will also be reconstructed and widened to accommodate one 12-foot lane and 8-foot shoulder in each direction between Beacon Street and the vicinity of Lows Hollow Road (Milepost 2.5 to 2.8). The reconstructed Route 57 will provide safer driving conditions approaching the new structure.
NJDOT planned the bridge replacement in a manner that provides two lanes of traffic on Route 57 through the construction area for the duration of the project, excluding possible two-hour closures during the installation of bridge beams.
