NJDOT to resurface I-195 in Monmouth County

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced the start of a pavement resurfacing project that will resurface Interstate 195 eastbound and westbound in the townships of Wall and Howell in Monmouth County. Resurfacing will begin Monday, April 23, 2007 and is scheduled to be completed by mid-November, 2007.

“Resurfacing Route 195 in Monmouth County will increase motorist safety and the efficiency of the roadway and increase the road’s lifespan by fifteen to twenty years,” noted Commissioner Kolluri. “The newly resurfaced roadway will provide a much steadier and safer drive for motorists.”

The $6.2 million project will resurface I-195 eastbound from the Route 9 interchange (milepost 27.20) to the Route 34 interchange (milepost 34.17), and I-195 westbound from the Route 34 interchange to Mingamahone Brook (milepost 32). In addition, NJDOT will resurface seven access ramps to and from I-195. This concentrated effort to repair the deficient roadway will extend the lifespan of this stretch of I-195 by fifteen to twenty years.

Construction will be performed at night in order to mitigate traffic impacts on Route 195, one of the most heavily traveled east-to-west highways in central New Jersey.

NJDOT is working with the State Police to maintain safe conditions for workers and motorists in the construction zone. NJDOT will install Variable Message Signs (VMS) to inform motorists of any change in traffic patterns during nighttime operations.
