NJDOT to resurface Route 287 northbound in Morris and Somerset counties

(Trenton) –Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that during the week of May 14, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will begin a $4 million resurfacing project on Interstate 287 northbound in Morris and Somerset County.

“Resurfacing Route 287 will increase motorist safety and extend the road’s lifespan by fifteen to twenty years,” noted Kolluri. “The project will improve the roadway’s efficiency and provide relief from potholes and generally poor driving surfaces.”

The extensive roadway resurfacing project will stretch through Bernards Township in Somerset County and the townships of Harding and Morris in Morris County. Four ramps to and from I-287 also will be resurfaced as a part of this project.

The project will begin the week of May 14 and is scheduled to be complete by mid-September 2007. The resurfacing work will be done overnight with periodic single and double lane closures. No permanent detour will be required. One night ramp closures will be required to complete the resurfacing work on the ramps. Only one ramp will be closed at any given time. NJDOT will provide a clearly marked detour route during all ramp closures.

NJDOT is working with the State Police to maintain safe conditions for workers and motorists in the construction zone. NJDOT will install Variable Message Signs (VMS) for the duration of mainline work to inform motorists of any change in traffic patterns during nighttime operations.
