Newly reconfigured Route 173 intersction opens in Clinton Town
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that the redesigned Route 173 and Clinton-Lakeview Avenue (CR-513) intersection in Clinton Town, Hunterdon County opened to traffic on Monday, May 21.
“This much-needed intersection project demonstrates the Department’s commitment to improving our transportation infrastructure and the quality of life for Hunterdon County residents and motorists traveling on Route 173 and I-78,” said Kolluri.
The project reconfigured the signalized intersection of Route 173 and County Route 513/I-78 westbound exit ramp. The bridge that carries Route 173 over the South Branch of the Raritan River was also rehabilitated as part of the project.
NJDOT realigned the exit ramp in order to allow the movements from I-78 westbound to Route 173 eastbound to proceed simultaneously, thereby reducing congestion and improving the operation of the intersection. In addition, NJDOT provided a through/right turn lane and divisional island has been provided for Route 173 westbound. A new divisional island is also provided along Route 173 eastbound.
NJDOT also built a stormwater detention basin and water quality chamber for management and treatment of roadway runoff during rain events.
