NJDOT announces temporary closure
of U-turn on Route 22 in Union Township
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that U-turn G from Route 22 westbound in Union Township, Union County will be temporarily closed to traffic beginning Friday, June 8. U-turn G is located at milepost 53.3 of Route 22 westbound, immediately after the I.H.O.P restaurant.
The temporary closure will address safety concerns regarding the current operation of U-turn G by providing greater separation between U-turns and decreasing the queuing of vehicles, which causes congestion in this segment of Route 22 eastbound. NJDOT will study the new traffic pattern to determine whether the closure should become permanent. Construction barrels, breakaway barriers, and new striping will be used to prevent traffic from entering the U-turn.
NJDOT will use portable Variable Messaging Signs (VMS) and other signage on Route 22 westbound and Springfield Road to inform motorists of the ramp closure. Real time travel and construction information is available online at www.njcommuter.com.
