NJDOT to improve Route 124 and Kings Road intersection in Madison
(Trenton) –Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that on Monday, June 11, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will begin a $500,000 project to improve the intersection of Route 124 and Kings Road in Madison Borough, Morris County.
“This project will greatly benefit motorists by easing congestion and improving safety in Madison Borough,” said Commissioner Kolluri. “The Route 124 and Kings Road project is an example of NJDOT’s cost-effective, context-sensitive methods of increasing driver safety.”
This project resulted from Madison Borough officials’ concerns regarding the speed of traffic accessing Kings Road from Route 124. The resulting project will realign the existing intersection to eliminate the move from Route 124 eastbound onto Kings Road southbound. The newly designed intersection will provide for a calmer, safer traffic pattern for motorists by transforming the move into a traditional 90-degree right hand turn.
The reconstruction project is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 11 and be completed by mid-November 2007. The majority of the work on this project will be completed during daytime hours. NJDOT does not expect any impact on the flow of traffic through the intersection during daytime construction. Periodic night-time construction may require alternating traffic patterns through the intersection.
NJDOT will install Variable Message Signs (VMS) on Route 124 to inform motorists of any change in traffic patterns during night-time operations. Real time travel and construction information is available online at www.njcommuter.com
