NJDOT to replace bridge deck on I-78 eastbound in Bedminster Township
(Trenton) New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced the start of construction on the replacement of the I-78 eastbound bridge deck over I-287 in Bedminster Township, Somerset County.
This $2.1 million deck replacement project will replace a deteriorated bridge deck on I-78 eastbound at the I-287 interchange, which is a critical link to the Garden State Parkway, the NJ Turnpike, Newark Airport and the Holland Tunnel.
Beginning on June 22, NJDOT will close the right lane on the I-78 eastbound lanes. Two lanes of eastbound traffic will be maintained during construction. The project is scheduled for completion in December 2007.
NJDOT has installed a real-time work zone travel system along the project route. This system monitors vehicle speed through the project area and informs motorists of traffic backups and alternate routes. NJDOT will install Variable Message Signs (VMS) on Routes 78 and 287 to inform motorists of traffic backups and traffic pattern changes. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.njcommuter.com for project and traffic updates.
