NJDOT announces lane shifts to occur this weekend on I-78 in Union Township

(Trenton) The New Jersey Department of Transportation today announced that a traffic shift will take place on I-78 in Union Township eastbound beginning Saturday, June 16, 2007.

Currently, I-78 eastbound Local traffic travels on the shoulder and the right lane. Starting Saturday morning, traffic will travel on the two far left lanes for travel, thus allowing NJDOT to rehabilitate the right lane and shoulder. The overall eastbound roadway configuration will continue to be comprised of two Express lanes and two Local lanes.

In order to shift traffic to the left lanes, NJDOT will narrow I-78 eastbound Local to one lane of traffic from 8 p.m. on June 18 to 10 a.m. on June 19. In addition, ramps to I-78 eastbound Local from Vauxhall Road, Liberty Avenue and Burnett Avenue will be periodically closed. Overnight, NJDOT will re-stripe and repave the area.

This work is part of NJDOT’s $42 million reconstruction of 2.3 miles of I-78 from Route 24 to the Garden State Parkway in Union Township, Union County.
