NJDOT to improve safety and congestion on Route 1 southbound at I-95/295 in Lawrence Township
(Trenton) Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will build a ramp and improve access and signage on Route 1 southbound at the interchange with I-95/295 in Lawrence Township, Mercer County starting July 2, 2007.
“This project will improve safety and congestion at a key interchange along Route 1 and make it easier for motorists to access I-95, I-295 and local businesses along Route 1 southbound,” Commissioner Kolluri said.
NJDOT will relieve congestion by building a ramp that will separate Route 1 southbound traffic bound for I-95 and I-295. NJDOT also will improve safety by improving an existing connector roadway to provide access to and from businesses along Route 1 southbound and closing the existing driveway near Joe’s Crab Shack onto Route 1 southbound. In addition, NJDOT will revise the existing directional signs and install a new overhead sign to provide clearer guidance for motorists traveling on Route 1 southbound.
In order to minimize traffic impacts upon the 80,000 vehicles that use this roadway daily, NJDOT will construct the $2.7 million project overnight and maintain current lane configuration during daytime and evening hours. Single and double lane closures will be permitted overnight. The project is scheduled to be completed by July 2008.
Variable message signs will be installed to inform motorists of upcoming lane closures. Real time traffic information is also available at www.njcommuter.com
