NJDOT to replace Park Avenue bridge over NJ Transit rail line in Long Branch
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced the start of construction on a project to replace the Park Avenue bridge over NJ Transit’s North Jersey Coast rail line in the City of Long Branch, Monmouth County.
The $6.7 million, state-funded project will replace the structurally deficient and functionally obsolete Park Avenue Bridge with a new structure that features improved vertical clearance and sight distance. The roadway approaches of the bridge from Woodgate Avenue and Park Lane also will be upgraded as part of the project. The entire project is scheduled for completion in July 2009.
Park Avenue will be closed to traffic during construction. NJDOT will implement the following detours:
• Park Avenue eastbound traffic will turn left on Norwood Avenue, turn right on Cedar Avenue and turn right onto Ocean Avenue.
• Park Avenue westbound traffic will turn right onto Norwood Avenue, turn left onto Cedar Avenue and turn left on Ocean Avenue.
NJDOT will use portable Variable Messaging Signs (VMS) and other signage on Route 71 and local roads to inform motorists of the bridge closure and detour routes. Real time travel and construction information is available online at www.njcommuter.com.
