NJDOT completes safety improvements to Routes 47 and 83 in Dennis Township
(Trenton) - Commissioner Kris Kolluri, head of the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), today announced the completion of the reconstruction of the Route 47 Bridge over Dennis Creek and the Route 47 and Route 83 intersection in Dennis Township, Cape May County.
“NJDOT has significantly improved safety and driving conditions for motorists in Dennis Township by replacing the deteriorated Route 47 Bridge and realigning the Route 9/47 intersection,” proclaimed Kolluri.
The $6.7 million project replaced the structurally deficient Route 47 Bridge over Dennis Creek with a new structure that features wider shoulders and a wider sidewalk. NJDOT also improved operation and safety by realigning and installing signals at the Route 47 and Route 83 intersection. In order to minimize inconvenience to motorists, NJDOT maintained two lanes of traffic over the Dennis Creek at all time during construction.
The new bridge was completed and opened to traffic on July 5. NJDOT will complete the final resurfacing work along each highway this week.
