NJDOT to resurface Route 440 in Middlesex County

Roadway rehabilitation project will require nightly lane closures

(Trenton)- The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced overnight lane closures beginning the week of August 20 on Route 440 southbound as part of a resurfacing project in Edison, Perth Amboy and Woodbridge in Middlesex County.

“Resurfacing Route 440 in Middlesex County will increase motorist safety, improve the efficiency of the roadway and increase the road’s lifespan by up to 15 years,” noted Commissioner Kolluri. “The newly resurfaced roadway will provide motorists a steadier and safer drive.”

This $6 million pavement preservation project will extend the life of the roadway surface by 12 to 15 years and increase skid-resistance. NJDOT will mill and pave the roadway and shoulders.

Construction will be performed at night in order to mitigate traffic impacts on Route 440, which is the most direct route to Staten Island from central New Jersey. The project is scheduled for completion in January 2008.

NJDOT has installed Variable Message Signs (VMS) on Route 440 and the NJ Turnpike to inform motorists the changes in traffic patterns during nighttime operations. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website, https://nj-dot.nj.gov/transportation/commuter/ for project updates.
