NJDOT announces bridge deck replacement
on Route 3 Passaic River bridge
(Trenton) - Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) starting August 27 will replace the deck of the Route 3 Bridge over the Passaic River between Clifton and Rutherford in Passaic and Bergen counties.
“NJDOT routinely monitors and repairs our state’s roadway infrastructure in order to ensure that operational and safety standards are maintained,” said Commissioner Kolluri. “Replacement of the Route 3 bridge deck will improve safety for motorists crossing the Passaic River.”
NJDOT will replace the existing steel deck grates on the movable spans of the bridge. All work will be performed at night in order to mitigate impact for motorists. The $3.7 million project is scheduled to be completed in January 2008.
This work precedes a much larger scale full replacement of the bridge, which is currently in design.
Route 3 eastbound work will take place from August through November and will entail single lane overnight closures. Crews will work on Monday to Thursday from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. and Fridays from 10:30 p.m. to 7:30 am.
From late-November to January, crews will work on the Route 3 Westbound lanes and also will require single lane overnight closures. Work will take place on Monday to Thursday from 10:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Fridays from 10:30 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Motorists will be advised of lane closures via traffic alerts and Variable Message Signs. Motorists can also access real-time traffic information via the NJDOT website at https://nj-dot.nj.gov/transportation/commuter/.
