NJDOT announces Route 9W ramp improvements in Fort Lee
(Trenton)- Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will reconstruct the Route 9W (Fletcher Avenue) ramps onto I-95 in the Borough of Fort Lee, Bergen County, starting Monday, February 25, 2008.
“This $4.4 million project will improve safety throughout this vital interchange and increase the efficiency of the Route 9W ramps,” said Commissioner Kolluri. “These improvements represent a tangible increase in safety for the commuters who travel this intersection on a daily basis."
Beginning Monday, February 25, NJDOT will widen Route 9W southbound to provide a right-turn lane leading to the ramps to Route 4 westbound and to I-95. The ramp to Route 4 westbound will also be widened to two lanes. New sign support structures and ground-mounted signs will be added throughout the area. In addition, NJDOT will build raised concrete curb medians along Route 9W to prevent motorists from undertaking dangerous left turn and cross movements. The project is scheduled to be completed in July 2009.
Route 9W will remain open in all directions throughout construction. Single lane closures may be necessary. The project will entail the temporary closure and detour of Cross Street and West Street. Motorists will be notified of these closures and detour routes in advance.
Variable message signs will be installed at the site to inform motorists of pending construction and detours. Real time traffic information is available to motorists at https://nj-dot.nj.gov/transportation/commuter/.
