Interstate 195 westbound to get resurfaced
in Howell and Jackson Townships
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will resurface more than fifteen miles of Interstate 195 westbound from Howell Township, Monmouth County to Jackson Township, Ocean County.
NJDOT is scheduled to start the resurfacing project on March 3, 2008 and complete construction in August 2008.
“This $8.6 million resurfacing project will improve motorist safety and extend the useful life of one of the states busiest roadways,” noted Commissioner Kris Kolluri.
This concentrated effort to repair the deficient roadway will extend the lifespan of this stretch of I-195 by twelve to fifteen years.
NJDOT will perform construction at night in order to mitigate traffic impacts on Route 195. Periodic lane closures may be necessary. Single-day ramp closures will be required in order to resurface the ramps. Only one ramp will be closed at any given time. Dates for each of the ramp detours will be announced in advance.
NJDOT is working with the State Police to maintain safe conditions for workers and motorists in the construction zone. NJDOT will install Variable Message Signs to inform motorists of changes in traffic patterns during nighttime operations. Real-time travel and construction information is available online at www.njcommuter.com.
