NJDOT announces lane closures on Route 28 in Bound Brook and Middlesex

(Trenton)- Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will temporarily close the westbound lanes of Route 28 over Green Brook in Bound Brook, Somerset County and Middlesex, Middlesex County. The closures are necessary to replace the Route 28 Bridge over Green Brook.

Starting Saturday, March 29, the two eastbound lanes will carry one lane of traffic in each direction on Route 28 from East Street to Beechwood Avenue/Prospect Place. NJDOT will maintain both eastbound and westbound traffic.

"Maintaining and improving New Jersey’s bridge infrastructure is NJDOT’s highest priority,” said Commissioner Kolluri. "Replacing the Route 28 Bridge over Green Brook will extend the useful life of the roadway and improve the safety of motorists."

The lane closures will enable NJDOT to replace the Route 28 Bridge over Green Brook. As part of the $2 million bridge deck replacement project, NJDOT also will repave Route 28 and install guide rail and sidewalks in both directions. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2009.

NJDOT will install Variable Message Signs (VMS) to inform motorists of traffic pattern changes. Real-time travel and construction information is available online at https://nj-dot.nj.gov/transportation/commuter/.
