NJDOT to replace bridge deck on Thompson Avenue over Route 22 in Bridgewater
(Trenton) -- New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced the start of a $1.4 million project to reconstruct the Thompson Avenue bridge deck over Route 22 in Bridgewater Township, Somerset County.
“This much-needed Route 22 bridge deck replacement is a prime example of the NJDOT’s commitment to improving our transportation infrastructure and the quality of life for Somerset County residents,” said Kolluri.
NJDOT will replace the deteriorated bridge deck in two stages in order to maintain southbound Thompson Avenue throughout the duration of the project. Northbound Thompson Avenue will be closed to traffic and detoured.
The following detour routes will be implemented:
• Beginning Friday, May 2, northbound Thompson Avenue traffic will detour onto Route 22 eastbound, make a U-turn at Mountain Avenue and re-enter Thompson Avenue northbound from Route 22 westbound. The detour measures a total of 2.8 miles and will be in place until October 2008.
Temporary nighttime lane closures on Route 22 will be necessary during the installation and removal of the temporary construction materials for the new deck as well. Construction is scheduled to be completed by December 2008.
NJDOT will install variable message signs on Route 22 to inform motorists of traffic pattern changes closures. In addition, NJDOT will post directional signs throughout the detour route to guide motorists. Real time travel and construction information is available online at https://nj-dot.nj.gov/transportation/commuter/ for emergency information.
