NJDOT announces traffic shift for Route 70 bridge over the Manasquan River

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that Route 70 westbound traffic will shift on the ‘September 11 Memorial Bridge’ over the Manasquan River connecting Brielle Borough and Brick Township.

Beginning Wednesday, May 7, at 12:30 p.m., Route 70 westbound traffic will be shifted onto the newly constructed westbound side of the bridge. Route 70 will feature two lanes of westbound traffic over the westbound structure and two lanes of eastbound traffic over the eastbound structure.

Remaining work on the project includes the construction of the eastbound bridge sidewalk, monuments, curb and guide rail. In addition, the median barrier on the bridge approaches will be constructed and final paving and striping work will be completed. A new permanent traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Route 70 and River Road/Riviera Drive in Brick Township. The temporary pedestrian walkway bridge will also be removed.

The $52 million project to replace the Route 70 Bridge over the Manasquan River in Brick Township, Ocean County and Brielle, Monmouth County began in early 2006. The project is progressing ahead of scheduled and is anticipated to be completed in December, 2008. In addition to replacing the bridge, NJDOT will widen and reconstruct Route 70 from Herbertsville Road in Brick Township to Riverview Drive in Brielle.
