NJDOT plans roadway rehabilitation on Route 78
(Trenton)- Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will resurface Route 78 from Drift Road in Watchung Borough, Somerset County to Route 124 in Berkeley Heights, Union County.
“Resurfacing Route 78 will improve the movement of goods and increase safety,” said Commissioner Kolluri. “Route 78 is one of New Jersey’s most vital corridors for both commercial trucking and commuting.”
Starting on July 14, NJDOT will resurface the eastbound side of Route 78. NJDOT will impose temporary nighttime lane closures on Mondays through Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day and weekend lane closures from Fridays at 6 p.m. to Mondays at 6 a.m. Some lane closures may occur on the westbound side of Route 78 in order to perform electrical work.
The $25 million project also includes guide rail replacement and traffic management tools including cameras and electronic signage. NJDOT is scheduled to complete resurfacing work on eastbound Route 78 in December 2008. NJDOT is scheduled to resurface westbound Route 78 from December 2008 to December 2009.
